Sunday - Texas to New Mexico

The kids were so happy to cross the border into Texico, New Mexico yesterday.  Leaving Texas made it finally seem as if we were going somewhere.  We drove from about 11 am to 4 pm, when we arrived to today’s destination, Santa Fe.

We fell in love with Santa Fe’s quaint feel and beautiful Adobe architecture.  It was the most unique downtown area I’ve seen.  We’d heard the food was phenomenal, so we stopped at a Spanish restaurant and had some tapas.  It was quite an adventure.

Just before that, Matea had diarrhea all over herself and her carseat.  This is no fun at home, but even more difficult in an RV.  We cleaned her and the carseat up as best we could, but the carseat’s still out of commission until it can be washed.  Elijah and Isaac had also been rough housing, which ended in one trying to shove the other’s face into a pillow.  Needless to say, we were not happy about that.  And then there was the poop.  We sent the three big boys outside while we dealt with cleaning up the mess.  They began a snowball fight, for which they were very underdressed.  Adam and I just kept looking at each other and laughing.  It was all we could do!

Sitting down to a prepared meal was a welcome treat after all of that.  Being pinched for time and having little patience left, we had chosen one of the first restaurants we could find.  It was a very nice Spanish restaurant - the expensive kind, that you don't take kids to.  Oh well, it was early enough in the evening that the restaurant was not very busy, and they were very gracious and accomodating to us.  We got cleaned up, settled into our seats at the restaurant, and the boys promptly took their straws and poked holes in the sides of their Styrofoam cups.  You know, to drink the water out sideways?  More laughing.  It was a day full of memories made.

The good news was we got back to our home on wheels early, got everyone settled into their beds and enjoyed a peaceful evening.  Letting them sleep in their beds while  we drove was like a mini-date.  We stopped and got a couple of lattes and enjoyed a quiet couple of hours while everyone slept.  They slept from about 7pm to 6 am.  All in all, a good day and a good night.  This morning we woke in Grants, New Mexico.  Today it’s on to the Grand Canyon!

QUOTES OF THE DAY:

(Isaac dropped onto Adam’s shoulders while he was driving and grabbed his ears) “Hey Dad, I’m driving you and you’re driving the motorhome!” –Isaac

(At the top of his lungs, in the middle of our fancy Spanish restaurant) “Hey, can anybody think of a word that rhymes with ‘eener’?” –Elijah

“My mouth is hungry!” –Matea

“Hey Samuel, can I borrow your hat?” -Adam
“No Dad, it’s only for awesome people.” –Samuel

(While listening to a song called “Cowboy Joe” on a children’s CD)
“Hey!  We should have invited Joey to come with us!” –Isaac

And happy birthday to our sweet A-Ham today!  We celebrated last weekend, but today it’s official!  What a blessed family we are to have Abraham with us!
