Tuesday - Carlsbad Caverns

Today was spent enjoying the Carlsbad Caverns, which we found out cover about 600,000 square feet, which is equal to 14 football fields!

The path through the main part of the cavern was about 1.5 miles long. We had an audio tour that Samuel loved listening to...he had it the entire time. So any questions should be directed toward him. :)

We crossed the state line into Texas and immediately noticed changes in the landscape. All of the sudden, cotton fields. Everywhere! And clumps of cotton were stuck to everything. I picked a watermelon from a wild vine growing on the side of the road. It's not ripe, so Samuel's going to smash it open tomorrow. We had to stop in a small town for propane, and the employees at the station we found gave us our first taste of West Texans. They gave us a handful of pecans (and were dumbfounded when I asked what they were) from their tree. They were very hospitable - they let us know we were welcome to stay there instead of going on to Florida. I don't know that we'd make very good West Texans, though.

By the way, gas is so cheap here. Is it getting better in Portland too? We just passed a station where it was $1.95!

Right now we're on our way to Abilene, TX to visit Jesse and Nicole! We can't wait to see them!

QUOTES OF THE DAY:

"It's a mountain." - Elijah, of the stalagmites in the cavern.

"Do you have a wedgie?" - Samuel
"No, I have a clean diaper." - Elijah

"We saw Bad Carl's Cave today." - Samuel, talking on the phone.

"And did you know that Carl's Junior Cavern has over 100 rooms?" - Samuel, later, talking on the phone.

This is SO MUCH FUN to read! I am ready to take the RV out and hit the rode just to hear some of the comments that would come out of Tallia's mouth! Thank you for sharing your trip with us! I love it! Oh and Amber-Rose, I'm sorry that your first trip to the mid-west was filled with dead animal skins!

The Eugene Chapter of the Zimel Fan Club would like to request an update to the Zimel Zoo. After all, how are we supposed to update our ZimelTracker 2K6 interactive map when we don't have updates? At this point we're wondering if Adam decided to buy 40 acres of pecan trees in west Texas and just park the RV. We all know he loves wearing wranglers and cowboy boots...
