All About Samuel

Lately, Samuel's been leading a life of staying up and sleeping in. Oh, the joys of summer. The rude awakening of a 6:30 wake-up will come soon enough when school starts later this month. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that he'll be entering 2nd grade. Time flies.

He's been interested in all things having to do with nature, science and astronauts lately, as well as, of course, his usual Star Wars and Legos obsessions. He likes to ride his bike around the neighborhood with friends, or just up and down the cul-de-sac if he's by himself. We've been at the library a lot this week, which is really a fun outing for him. He has his own library card, with which he can log into the children's computers and play games for 30 minutes. This is something I don't just let him do anytime he wants to at home, as I'm ever striving to cut "screens" out of our life (or so it seems!). After that he gets to pick out new books and check them out by himself. He loves anything that puts him one step closer to being a grown-up.

A few things on Samuel's social calender that he's really looking forward to are an upcoming trip to Fiesta Texas (where they just opened a new Tony Hawk rollercoaster), and visit from Pop (my dad) which will include a trip to Schlitterbahn (a really big waterpark chain in Texas). He's also in the process of scheduling a weekend trip out to Abilene, Texas (I'm not going to hyperlink that one because it's just too boring - except that our favorite newlyweds live there) to visit my brother, Jesse, and his new bride, Nicole. Jesse always has cool uncle stuff planned for him, like fishing and turkey hunting.
