After leaving the Grand Canyon Saturday we headed East toward the Carlsbad Caverns via Albuquerque. After spending the night in Albuquerque (where our RV park just happened to have a playground!) we went Southeast toward White's City, where the Carlsbad Caverns are located. En route we happened to pass through the city of Roswell, famous for its alleged alien activity. We figured that for educational purposes, this trip wouldn't be complete without a quick jaunt through the city and a briefing on its extra-terrestrial history. A local woman assured us that not everyone who lives in Roswell believes in aliens. An interesting thing to note driving through the city is the plethora of alien paraphenalia that decorates the town. New car plates have "Roswell Toyota" logos inside a flying saucer; everything from Walmart's windows to bus stop shelters have painted-on aliens.
So from there we put on a video for the boys (Flipper, which turned out to be a very good movie, we thought) and arrived in White's City around bedtime. Tomorrow morning we plan to visit the caves.
QUOTES OF THE DAY:
"Are they, like, people dressed up as aliens, or does this place have real aliens?!" - Samuel, in Roswell
